I got bored again today, so you know what that means... a new sewing project! While listening to music and aimlessly surfing the web for ideas, I got frustrated with my current MP3 player cover. I made it a while ago, but the size was hard to get just right.

It was kinda plain, and it didn't fit as snug as I liked. Since I'm constantly dropping my MP3 player, a better cover was in order.

So onto step one, sketch time!

Pretty much all of my projects start out like this, vague ideas sketched out and quickly scribbled over. I'm not going to pretend I'm the most creative person out there, but my creativity usually involves 99% bad ideas and 1% good ones. It's a good thing paper is cheap... I certainly go through enough of it.

Now that I got the basic design, I got my imitation-leather and pink liner fabric cut out. I hand-sewed my little music note design on there and then sandwiched some fusible web between them and ironed them together.

I wanted to use my favorite corner-cutter of all time, spray glue, but it wouldn't hold well enough. Sigh.

On my inside panel I cut out a rectangle for the MP3 player screen and some circles for the controls. I found some clear plastic vinyl and sewed it onto the screen area and also sewed around the control edges so it wouldn't stretch or anything.

All that was left after that was to cut a strip of fabric for the little top strap and then sew the front, back, and front flap together. Considering I started out with no pattern and no clue what I was doing, I kinda like how it turned out. I'd call it a success, even. :)

Now if only I can avoid water damage as well, maybe this MP3 player will last over a year... (I'm not hopeful, but I can dream, can't I?)
